You will make more ISK/hr by simply belt ratting in "good" null sec. Mission-running involves having multiple agents, lots of docking and undocking, rejecting missions and waiting out 4 hour decline timers. Belt ratting involves warping from belt to belt (in multiple systems, if possible) and killing the rats that are sitting there waiting for you.
The catch? In null sec you can't just log in and head off belt ratting. Many alliances divide up the sovereign space so that your corp has system X, the neighbours have their own system, and so forth. As you curry favour with your Alliance overlords your corp will be granted more/better systems to rat/mine in. Another catch is that you can't just go ratting any time you want: if there are non-blues in system you'd be foolish to rat in the belts. If there is a CTA you'll be better off as a corporation to join in and get your corp ticker known (so you can get promoted to better systems, etc).
So in effect, you're trading the inevitable four hour decline timer for the inevitable CTA/trespassers. Life in null sec is very different to life in hisec. The similarities are that you fly space ships and shoot things. Everything else is different. You don't blindly jump through gates in nulsec. You don't walk away from your computer while your ship is blowing up NPCs in null sec. You don't have a hundred people active on corp/alliance chat in hisec. You don't get a dozen folks interested in hunting down and blowing up other players in hisec.
I have lived in null sec and enjoyed it, I have lived in w-space and enjoyed it. I am now living in empire and enjoy it.
That's just my opinion. Others will differ.

I expect that 4/10 and above will be more profitable and entertaining than belt ratting. Day 0 advice for new players: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=77176 |

Don't forget the Gila. Drop sentries, shoot missiles to aggro, orbit while your sentries blow stuff up. Garde IIs will rip through Serpentis like a hot knife through butter. The catch is that you lose a few million ISK every time a non-blue enters system, unless you're brave/stupid and run back to pick the sentries up before docking/warping to POS.
